Small Business of the Year Finalist: Cardinal Waste Solutions

Steve Mader of SouthTowne Motors, Presenting Sponsor; Andy Binegar and Maggie McSweeney of Cardinal Waste Solutions; and Ginger Jackson Queener of UBS Financial Services, Presenting Sponsor

Over the next few weeks, we'd like to introduce you to our finalists for this year's Small Business of the Year Awards coming up August 25, 2016 at The Newnan Centre. Today, meet Cardinal Waste Solutions!

Chamber membership philosophy and involvement: Cardinal Waste Solution's philosophy on Chamber membership and involvement goes back to the basics of supporting a healthy economic growth plan. In the last three and a half years since Cardinal has been an active member of the Chamber, we have witnessed a healthy economic growth in the Newnan-Coweta area. The involvement of the Cardinal team starts with attention to detail of the smaller events. The big events are wonderful and you have the ability to meet many people, but it is getting to meet business owners face to face where the relationship can really thrive as their business grows, such as on-site at ribbon cuttings and power luncheons, just to name a couple.

Community involvement: Cardinal Waste Solutions has a different level of involvement, as we are a member of a few metro Chambers of Commerce. We donate containers throughout the year to the Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity Build Out Program. Cardinal Waste Solutions donated trash service to Southern Conservation Trust's Annual Farm to Table Benefit. We support the Business Women's Golf League, Fayette Care Clinic, and Midwest Food Bank, along with the Helping Hands Holiday Dinner.

How Cardinal differs from competitors: Cardinal is neither too big nor too small as we continue to be a unique trash and recycling hauler. We are the largest independent family-owned business in the Atlanta Metro area. Unlike the larger haulers, when you call our office, we answer the phone, as we are not on an automated system, and unlike smaller trash startup companies, our goal is not to win over customers simply to sell them during an acquisition. We give personalized care to each situation, finding the appropriate solution to individual needs.

Garnet Reynolds and Matt Brass are serving as this year’s Leadership Coweta co-chairs, and the theme for the 2016-2017 program is “Get on Board the Energy Bus,” which is based on the book “The Energy Bus” by Jon Gordon. Through its unique 11-month program, Leadership Coweta prepares future community leaders by allowing them to engage in both the formal and informal exchange of ideas and experiences; enhance their personal leadership skills awareness and development; gain knowledge from an in-depth view of community issues; have access to opportunities for community involvement; understand more about the interdependencies between sectors of the local economy as well as the interrelationships of local issues; and receive knowledge on numerous subjects that prepare them for a more active leadership role in the community. The program year runs from September 2016 to May 2017.
