Cynthia Bennett has been named our new Director of Programs at the Newnan-Coweta Chamber.
Her duties will include leading Chamber programs such as the German Model Apprenticeship program, Leadership Coweta, the Business Women's Network, and the Chamber's Young Professionals. She will also be responsible for crafting and managing a dynamic small business support program and facilitating the Chamber's technology planning.
"How can I be anything but honored and energized to be joining this award-winning organization?" Bennett said. "Ken and I have enjoyed many benefits of membership in the Newnan-Coweta Chamber, and now I plan to create this same experience for other business owners. For nearly 30 years I have made my home in Coweta County. The quality of life is the result of collaboration between local government, businesses, nonprofits and civic organizations. I am looking forward to working for continued growth and prosperity in our community."
Bennett has an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Social Studies Education from Florida State University and a master's degree from George Washington University. She earned her M.A. in Education and Human Development, specializing in Educational Technology Leadership.
A two-time Teacher of the Year and a finalist for the State Economics Teacher of the Year, Bennett served from 1990-2015 in the Coweta County School System, serving at schools including O.P. Evans Middle, East Coweta Middle and Ellis G. Arnall Middle before moving to East Coweta High School, where she taught from 1999 until retiring in 2015. At East Coweta High, she served as an Advanced Placement Social Studies Teacher and Teacher Support Specialist. Prior to her career as an educator, she worked as the Director of Education for the Columbus Medical Center and as the Development Officer for Callaway Gardens.
Chamber President and CEO Candace Boothby said the Chamber is thrilled to have someone of Bennett's vast experience, talent, and strengths join the Chamber team. "Cynthia's commitment to excellence and her proven, award-winning style are a perfect match for our Chamber. She will definitely be a big part of our success moving forward. We couldn't be more pleased."
